17th Founder’s Day Celebrations – 8th August , 2026
August 8th is a significant day in the school calendar, as it marks the birthday of Mrs. Gita Krishnamurthy – a passionate and dedicated teacher in whose memory the school was founded . Every year, the school marks this special day as Founder’s Day, honouring her vision, dedication, and lasting contribution for education and development of children. This 17th Founder’s Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and grandeur. In two parts. The celebrations began on the morning of August 8th with the Mini Convocation ceremony in the multi purpose conference hall. Dr KG Balakrishnan addressed the gathering and then along with his wife Mrs. Malathi and the trustees Bhasker Sharma and Shyam Ramamurthy gave the diploma to each student who was called on to the stage. It was a proud and memorable occasion as 45 students of Class I were conferred their Kindergarten Diplomas, marking an important milestone in their educational journey. The evening programme commenced with a prayer song followed by the Annual Sports Meet, in which students from KG to Class X participated with great enthusiasm and sporting spirit. While the younger children competed in activities like musical chairs, bursting the balloon, fetching balls from the center of a circle etc the older children participated in 3 legged races, 100m dash, kho-kho, lemon and spoon race etc. The winners were felicitated with medals and certificates in recognition of their achievements. The formal function was presided over by Dr. KG Balakrishnan, whose presence added distinction to the occasion. He addressed the gathering followed by a few words from the managing trustee of GKT as well as Mrs. Usha Raman – the mentor of the school. Then academic and teaching excellence was celebrated through recognition of students and teachers. Mr. and Mrs. Balakrishnan presented prizes to the Board Examination Toppers of the academic year 2025–2026, honouring their outstanding achievements. The GP Prizes were also awarded to students who had excelled consistently throughout the academic year. These awards are supported by a generous endowment set up by Dr. Balakrishnan in memory of his parents “Karpagavalli and Gopalakrishnan”. Our dedicated teachers were felicitated in appreciation of their commitment, hard work, and invaluable contribution to the growth and success of our students. Mrs. Uma Ramachandran memorial awards for ‘Excellence in Mathematics’ and “All-Round performance” were presented to the two girl students who had demonstrated exceptional ability, dedication, and overall excellence. The final part of the evening was the cultural programme showcasing the talent of the students. The audience enjoyed a variety of Tamil and English skits presented by the children, reflecting their creativity and confidence. A set of Class I and II children presented a skit on ‘Old Mcdonald’s farm’ in English while another set of children from the same classes performed a wonderful skit in Tamil on the various symbols of Tamil Nadu and the need to preserve them. The 10th standard children put in a lot of hard work and acted out a scene from Shakespeare’s ‘Julias Caesar’ . Our alumni added to the celebrations with a graceful dance performance, while two of our budding stars captivated the audience with their impressive solo Bharatanatyam performances. Parents, teachers, students, alumni, trustees ,volunteers and well-wishers who attended the programme had a very enjoyable evening.
Felicitation of 2026 Board Exam toppers
On 25 July 2026, on behalf of the Rotary Club of Thamirabarani, Tirunelveli the school’s Board Examination toppers for the academic year 2025–2026, Ranjitha K. and Sukesh S., were felicitated by the Rotarians. They had scored 484 and 473 marks respectively in the TN board exams held in April 2026. On this special occasion, the Deputy Mayor of Tirunelveli Corporation, Mr. K. R. Raju, honoured these two top students with shields and gifts in recognition of their outstanding academic achievement.The function was attended by the school management, teachers, and proud parents, who came together to celebrate the students’ success. It was a memorable and joyous occasion for everyone.The achievement of Ranjitha and Sukesh is a matter of immense pride for the entire GKV family. We congratulate them and wish them continued success in all their future endeavours!!!
Education Development Day celebrations 15 July 2026
Tamil Nadu celebrates Education Development Day (Kalvi Valarchi Naal) on July 15th every year, since 2006, to mark the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister K. Kamaraj – who is revered as the father of modern education in Tamil Nadu. The school marked the day with various activities to highlight his contribution to education and to inspire students to value the importance of learning. In the morning, various competitions were conducted for the students in both Tamil and English. The competitions included drawing, poem writing, elocution, and essay writing. The students participated enthusiastically and showcased their creativity and talents. In the afternoon, students from Classes IV to X assembled in the school conference hall for the celebration. The program began with a prayer song, followed by paying floral tribute to Kamarajar’s portrait. The teachers shared their thoughts about Kamarajar, his significant contributions to the field of education, and the importance of education in today’s world.The students also watched short films highlighting the life and achievements of Kamarajar. The program concluded with the announcement of the competition winners and the distribution of prizes to the deserving students. The students actively participated in all the activities and thoroughly enjoyed the session.
Building Spaces. Inspiring Futures
GKV School was delighted to welcome Kavita Viswanath, SVP & India Country Lead, on the 9th of July, along with the Toast India team, to Gita Krishnamurthy Vidyalaya for the inauguration of our newly enhanced Multi-Purpose Hall & Learning Centre. This vibrant new learning space, made possible through Toast India’s generous CSR support, will become a hub for classroom learning, teacher development, workshops, cultural programmes and student activities for years to come. One of the highlights of the visit was Kavita’s inspiring interaction with our students. Drawing from her own journey and experiences leading technology teams, she spoke about a world being transformed by Artificial Intelligence, while reminding students that qualities such as curiosity, courage, integrity, continuous learning and believing in themselves will always remain their greatest strengths. Her message—that our circumstances do not define our future—struck a deep chord with our students. The session quickly turned into an engaging conversation. Students eagerly asked questions about AI, careers, leadership and learning. It was especially heartening to see many thoughtful questions coming from our younger students in Grades 6 and 7, reflecting both their curiosity and the confidence to engage with leaders from the technology industry. The Toast team’s warmth extended well beyond the formal programme. Their thoughtful gesture of bringing gifts for every single child in the school brought immense joy to our students and was deeply appreciated by both the children and our teachers. It was a simple act of kindness that made the day even more memorable. We thank Kavita and the entire Toast India team for spending time with our students, for believing in the transformative power of education, and for partnering with GKV to create opportunities that will benefit generations of learners. We look forward to building on this wonderful partnership in the years ahead.
Free camp by Aravind Eye Hospital
A free eye check-up camp was conducted, by Aravind Eye Hospital, Tirunelveli, at the school campus, on Friday, 03-07-2026 for students from Classes 1 to 10. Each student underwent an individual eye examination. A total of 373 students were screened during the camp. Out of the students examined, 10 were advised to wear spectacles. Among them, 3–4 students were already using spectacles, while the remaining students were advised to visit Aravind Eye Hospital after 15th July to obtain their prescribed spectacles. The teachers also underwent eye examinations as part of the camp. The camp was highly beneficial for both the students and the teachers by promoting awareness of eye health and facilitating early detection of vision problems. We sincerely thank Aravind Eye Hospital, Tirunelveli, for organizing this valuable initiative and providing free eye care services yet again. We deeply appreciate their dedicated efforts in promoting eye health and well-being of our school community.
GKV students awarded Hemlata Foundation scholarship
We are very excited that two of our alumni have been awarded the Hemlata Foundation scholarship after a rigorous selection process. They both come from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds and will benefit immensely from the financial assistance, mentorship, career guidance and life skills programs that the scholarship entails. We wish Gomathi and Nabeela the very best in their graduate education and career goals !! Gomathi with her father and sister Gomathi’s father is a daily basis milk seller and her mother is a homemaker. Her younger sister is in 9th grade in a government aided school. Gomathi who joined the LKG class in GKV in 2012 has been consistently excellent in her academics. She scored the highest in her class in the 10th examination in 2024 with an aggregate of 98.8% . She was among the top 10 performers at Jayendra school in the 12th standard exams scoring 95.7% in the Maths , Biology group. Her ambition is to gain strong technical knowledge and develop skills in programming, software development, and emerging technologies and build a successful career in Computer Science and Engineering(CSE). .As a skilled software engineer she would like to contribute to innovative projects that solve real-world problems. She also hopes to continue learning new technologies and achieve professional success while making my family proud. She is currently going through the Tamil Nadu state Engineering Admissions(TNEA) process wherein she is expected to get admitted to a computer science program in a state engineering college in a few weeks. Her hobbies include reading and listening to music. The Hemalatha Scholarship is very important to Gomathi because it supports her education and helps reduce the financial burden on her family. This scholarship gives her the opportunity to focus on her studies without worrying too much about educational expenses and motivates her to work harder, achieve her goals, and build a successful future. Nabeela who joined the LKG class in GKV in 2012 has been a consistently good academic performer. She scored 90% in the 10th examination in 2024 and scored 82.8% in the 12th standard exams in 2026 in the maths,computer science group at Jayendra School. Nabeela and her family went through a very difficult time during her higher secondary education when she lost her father. She overcame the emotional and psychological challenges and performed creditably in the 12th standard exams and also was successful in preparing for and being awarded the Hemalata Foundations scholarship. Nabeela’s mother is a homemaker and her sister is in 12th standard at Jayendra school. Her goal is to pursue a Bachelor of Technology degree in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science through Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) . She is awaiting counselling for the same which is expected in a few weeks. Her other interests are reading and tailoring. The institution has provided me with a positive learning environment, supportive faculty, and opportunities to develop both my academic knowledge and personal confidence. My time at GKV has strengthened my interest in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and motivated me to pursue higher education with dedication. The Hemlata Foundation Scholarship is very important to me because it would significantly reduce the financial burden on my family and help me continue my education without added financial stress. Receiving this scholarship brings me closer to achieving my goal of pursuing a career in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. It would not only support my studies but also encourage me to work harder and make the most of the opportunities available to me.”
LKG class of 2026
Through a process of drawing lots , 45 students were selected from over 150 applications for admission to LKG , in the first week of June. 25 girls and 20 boys started their journey of learning at GKV on 4th June 2026. The school now has a strength of 463 students (194 boys and 269 girls) with a single section of 35-45 students across LKG to 10th standard. With a reputation for quality English medium education and holistic development of children, the demand for admission far exceeds the capacity of intake with requests coming in through local government officials and bureaucrats that have been challenging to fulfill. As has always been the case , preference is given to children from economically disadvantaged families. This year, 60% of the families of the children admitted have an annual income of less than Rs 1 Lakh and 33% of the students’ families have an annual income between Rs 1 Lakhs and 1.5 Lakhs. Moreover, over 75% of the parents work in the informal sector with jobs such as driver, electrician, carpenter, plumber, welder, watchman, mason etc.
Class of 2026 results summary
All 30 students who appeared In the Tamil Nadu SSLC (Class 10) examinations in 2026 have passed with the top 5 students scoring over an aggregate of 90%. Across the state, 94.31% of the students who gave the exams passed. Out of 12,467 total participating schools, GKV is one among the 5,171 (41.5%) institutions that secured a cent per cent success rate. The top 5 performers of GKV scored over 90% and more than 50% of the students (17) passed with distinction. Of the 30 students from the class of 2026 , 11 have joined a 3 year diploma program while the remaining 19 are pursuing higher secondary education. With this a total of 340 students ( 176 boys and 164 girls) have passed out of GKV. 9% of our students are now employed while less than 2% are unreachable or dropped out before completing tertiary education. And the remaining majority of them are pursuing their secondary/tertiary education. Congratulations to all the students and Best Wishes for their future endeavors!. RYLA 2026
A RYLA(Rotary Youth Leadership Awards ) workshop was conducted at the school premises on 27th and 28th April 2026 in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Tirunelveli Central for the students of Classes IX and X. RYLA is an intensive, interactive leadership training program and camp designed for young people . The goal is to help participants (ages 14 to 30) develop communication, problem-solving, and team-building skills while fostering personal growth and civic responsibility . A total of 50 students participated in the programme. The sessions were handled by experienced mentors, including Neethi Gurusamy, Anandhi Neethigurusamy, Prabahar James, and their team, headed by Mr. Karpoor. The workshop featured engaging sessions such as Know Thyself, SWOT Analysis, and the ME Chart. Students actively participated and showcased their talents through various activities like skits, speeches, and group tasks. The participants were divided into five groups, and points were awarded for each session to encourage healthy competition. At the end of the workshop, the teamwork and enthusiasm of the students were appreciated by the dignitaries. Medals and certificates were awarded to the winning teams, along with individual prizes.
Birth Anniversary celebrations of Founder Trustee – Mr. A. Krishnamurthy – 1st Feb 2026
On 1st February 2026, Mr. A. Krishnamurthy – the founder trustee and visionary behind Gita Krishnamurthy Vidyalaya , who passed away on 7th November 2025, would have turned 90. The birth anniversary was celebrated at the school with great reverence and enthusiasm. On the evening of the 1st , a photograph of Mr. Krishnamurthy was unveiled at the entrance lobby of the school , next to the photograph of his wife Mrs. Gita Krishnamurthy in whose memory the school was founded. This was done by Mr. Venkat Krishnamurthy, his son and trustee and Ms. Supriya Krishnamurthy his daughter who then shared their cherished memories of Mr. Krishnamurthy . Some parents also spoke about the school and the invaluable contributions of the founder. A session of bhajans was held in his remembrance. Even though it was a Sunday, students and parents participated wholeheartedly and were delighted to be part of the celebration. Games such as kho-kho and handball were conducted, and the winners were encouraged with medals. The function concluded successfully, and snacks were distributed to the children, who thoroughly enjoyed the day. On 2nd February, various literary competitions were conducted for the students by Beehive Communications Club. This provided a platform for the students to explore and express their spoken and written English skills. The BCC trainer conducted live interviews with students . Their responses were clear, confident and impactful. Other events included drawing and pencil sketching , Thirukural recitation, dumb charades, mathemagic, essay writing etc . On this day, a grand lunch was arranged for the teachers along with Mr. Venkat and Mrs. Supriya, during which the teachers interacted warmly with them. In the afternoon, around 3:00 p.m., students assembled in the lobby and the winners of the competitions were honored with gift vouchers. The two days of celebration was truly memorable for everyone involved – it is planned to have a similar celebration every year on the 1st of February.
