Sri Jai Sankara Educational Trust

Gita Krishnamurthy Vidyalaya was set up in partnership between Gita Krishnamurthy Trust and Sri Jai Sankara Educational Trust. The latter runs Sri Jayendra Golden Jubilee School, a school whose motto is “To walk on a new path to touch new horizons”, is well known in Tamil Nadu for its academic results and achievements in extracurricular activities. The teachers and staff of Jayendra school, led by its passionate and energetic principal, Mrs Usha Raman, have been instrumental in setting up and nurturing GKV school by supporting the latter’s teachers and students in academics as well as sports, music, dance, arts and crafts etc.

India Literacy Project

Gita Krishnamurthy Vidyalaya continues to benefit from its partnership with ILP India Literacy Project – India Literacy Project (ilpnet.org) by using the learning framework & pedagogy that is a part of their MDLS (multi-dimensional learning spaces) program.
GKV’s association with ILP started in the year 2019, where they worked closely with associates from ILP to implement two of the three initiatives under the MDLS program which emphasised on:

  1. Creating a reading habit among students – this is the library program called GROW-BY, and,
  2. Having experiential learning in science through science kits, which complement learning from laboratories and experiments across the entire syllabus. The science teachers are utilising the science kits procured from ILP to teach the concepts by demonstrating experiments in the classroom.

While we continue to work closely on the above two initiatives, we are also exploring the possibility of implementing experiential learning in Social Sciences using Google Earth. This would give both students and teachers an immersive experience as they trace India’s rich heritage and history while navigating through their curriculum.

Emmanuel School, UK

Staff and students from Emanuel School, London, have been visiting GKV during their summer break in July, since 2012. During this visit, they work with the students and teachers on the English language and co-curricular activities such as arts, music, games, etc. The last such visit occurred in 2019, after which they were disrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They are expected to resume in July 2025. The school’s students have also regularly raised funds for GKV and the partner Jayendra school.
