Hudson Regional Health Commissioner Carlos Rodriguez examined the debris and tested it for radioactivity, but it came back negative. The FAA said no other reports of falling debris have been recently made in that area. NASA also issued a statement, saying that it was not a shuttle tile.

“[W]e have not flown the space shuttle since 2011, we had a highly accurate accounting of the tiles, and this does not appear to be a tile,” a NASA spokesperson said, adding that each tile also has a serial number.

Still, Bronowich isn’t convinced. “We went on the website and we looked up space shuttle tiles, and you could see that picture there, it basically matches up with that,” he said. “What they show online for a space shuttle tile, it’s a little thicker than what we actually have here, but it certainly looks like it. I don’t know if it’s actually a tile, but I know it did come out of the sky.”
